AI has been welcomed by many as an easy way to draft or create content. Having used ChatGPT, I will say, it is quite interesting how it pulls everything together. And of course, the better parameters you provide, the more detailed and seemingly accurate the information provided is.
Just as quickly as AI writing tools have developed, AI detectors are right on the heels of AI in general. Initially it was thought that giants like Google and LinkedIn would penalize people for using AI in various arenas, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Google indicates that they will help defend any legal copyright issues that might arise through the use of AI.
This leaves us all wondering about the ethics of AI. Yes, it's useful and a time-savor for businesses and individuals - something that is needed in our fast-paced world where time is money.
Yet how does this impact writing professionals? Even the editing piece of writing has become a bit moot as most applications can provide prompts for correct punctuation and word usage.
Where do authors and creators stand with AI? Will they be wiped out with this next computer intelligence age?
In the past several years, we've seen an uptick in the amount of people looking to write their stories - whether of a loved one's life, or a fictional piece they have just conjured up in their imagination.
Just like negotiating, or playing the stock market, a specific skill comes with finding the right words, tone, and demeanor. Writing shares emotion, thought, and a human element. Through writing, many people find the courage to speak better, more accurately, and confidently. The act of writing can be healing and can provide insight that some of us would not achieve without.
Writing, as an art and as a way of communicating, I believe, will be in existence until we learn how to communicate telepathically and have no need for writing.
In the meantime, our creatives will continue to unleash with the power of the written word - the visuals, the stories, the inspiration - and share that with others, keeping the connection alive.
